The Basic Training for Oil & Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations is a 5-day, DGS-approved course designed for seafarers who will be assigned specific duties related to cargo or cargo equipment onboard oil and chemical tankers. Conducted in accordance with the STCW Convention, the programme provides the essential knowledge and practical understanding required to work safely with hazardous cargoes.
The course covers the characteristics of oil and chemical cargoes, tanker construction, cargo handling operations, pollution prevention, health and safety precautions, emergency response procedures, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Through classroom instruction and simulator-based training, participants gain the competence required to support safe and efficient tanker operations.
Upon successful completion, candidates become eligible to obtain the Dangerous Cargo Endorsement (DCE) as per the applicable DG Shipping requirements.
